Busan Metropolitan City Government Seeks Designation as an Education Innovation Leading Region... Building a Busan-Style Education Innovation Model

[Financial News] Busan Metropolitan City Government is joining hands with relevant organizations to create an education innovation model tailored to the city's characteristics and is seeking designation as an Education Innovation Leading Region.
The city government will sign a memorandum of understanding on the joint pursuit of Education Innovation Leading Region designation with the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Dong-gu, Yeongdo-gu and Geumjeong-gu, as well as local universities and related organizations, at City Hall on the morning of the 22nd.
The Education Innovation Leading Region initiative is designed to address population decline and changes in local educational conditions. It brings together education offices, local governments, universities and other community stakeholders to lead education innovation suited to local circumstances, while fostering regional educational development, local talent and the foundations for people to settle in the area.
Although Busan has diverse educational and industrial foundations, including universities and companies, it needs to address differences in educational conditions among districts and the outflow of residents. The city will participate in the competition as a Type 2 applicant, which targets metropolitan cities outside the capital region. Centered on the population-declining districts of Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Dong-gu, Yeongdo-gu and Geumjeong-gu, it will pursue reducing educational disparities within the region and strengthening university-industry-linked education as essential tasks. It will also undertake autonomous projects reflecting the educational needs and characteristics of each district.
Under the agreement, the participating organizations will work together to promote the Education Innovation Leading Region initiative by utilizing their respective capabilities and resources.
Key areas of cooperation include establishing an operating plan for the Education Innovation Leading Region initiative, creating an education innovation model suited to local conditions, and developing measures to reduce educational disparities and foster talent within the region.
The city government and the Office of Education will jointly oversee the overall application process and project implementation, while the five districts will carry out projects tailored to their local characteristics. Universities and the Busan Anchor Center will support specialized education and career exploration. The Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries and the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry will contribute by linking local resources and providing advice.
Based on the agreement, the city government plans to finalize the details of the projects and apply to the Ministry of Education for the Education Innovation Leading Region competition by the 30th.
If selected, the city will begin full-scale education innovation projects next year, reflecting the educational conditions and needs of each district.
Through these efforts, the city aims to provide students with quality education and diverse opportunities for career development and growth within the region. In the long term, it also plans to create a virtuous cycle in which improved educational conditions lead to better settlement conditions for young people and families and greater regional vitality.
In addition, the city plans to identify and further develop best practices based on the education innovation achievements produced primarily by the five districts, then expand verified successful models across Busan.
