"Chungnam, a Land of Loyalty, to Become a Veterans Affairs Hub"... South Chungcheong Province to Build Veterans Affairs Center in Naepo

[Financial News, Hongseong—Reporter Kim Won-jun] South Chungcheong Province has unveiled a concrete plan to develop Naepo New Town into a key national hub for patriotism and veterans affairs.
South Chungcheong Province announced on the 22nd that it held an interim briefing on the Integrated Project to Build the Chungnam Righteous Army Memorial Hall and Remodel the Chungnam Patriots and Veterans Hall at the provincial government office's main conference room. Goo Sang, head of the provincial AI Basic Social Welfare Office, government officials, experts, and representatives of the project contractor attended the meeting.
The project is part of Practicing the Chungcheong Spirit of Loyalty, Filial Piety, and Propriety, a top-priority initiative of South Chungcheong Province's ninth elected administration. It involves building the Chungnam Righteous Army Memorial Hall in Mok-ri, Sapgyo-eup, Yesan County, and remodeling the aging Chungnam Patriots and Veterans Hall in Singyeong-ri, Hongbuk-eup, Hongseong County. The two facilities will be organically connected to create a comprehensive cultural space dedicated to veterans affairs.
The briefing presented the core content for the Righteous Army Memorial Hall, covering the Baekje Revival Army, the Imjin Righteous Army, anti-Japanese righteous armies, and the Donghak Peasant Revolution. It also unveiled the exhibition plan for the Veterans Hall, which will highlight the independence movement, martyr Yu Gwan-sun, and the Chungnam March 1 Movement.
Participants discussed differentiated ways to connect the facilities, including historically grounded visual presentations, immersive exhibits incorporating the latest artificial intelligence technology, and customized educational programs.
The Hongseong and Yesan areas, where the Righteous Army Memorial Hall and the Veterans Hall will be located, were historic battlegrounds where large-scale anti-Japanese righteous army struggles, including the late Joseon-era Eulmi Uibyeong and Byeong-o Uibyeong, unfolded fiercely. In particular, the Battle of Hongjuseong Fortress was a major event in which thousands of righteous army fighters, led by Min Jong-sik, fought against Japanese imperial forces. The province also plans to use this symbolic location to strengthen its historical significance and develop linked tour routes connecting it with local veterans-related historical sites.
Goo Sang said, "South Chungcheong is historically a land of loyalty and righteous armies that took the lead in overcoming national crises. We will successfully carry out this project, widely promote the values of loyalty, filial piety, and propriety, and complete a premier cultural space dedicated to veterans affairs that represents South Korea."
South Chungcheong Province plans to review and incorporate the experts' opinions presented at the briefing, finalize the project plan by next February, and then begin construction in earnest.
