[Financial News] Fantagio is building revenue through its drama production business. After producing an SBS Friday-Saturday drama, the company is expanding its production lineup to include a daily KBS drama, adding content production as another core pillar alongside its traditional management-focused business.
Fantagio said on the 22nd that it had signed a KRW 4.7 billion outsourced-production contract with Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) for the new daily drama 'Mission: Mompossible.' The contract is equivalent to 12.41% of its recent revenue. It runs from the 21st of this month through March 31 next year.
The most notable aspect of the contract is the series' long 120-episode run. Because it can secure production revenue over a relatively extended period rather than through a one-off content supply, the deal is seen as evidence of Fantagio's growing production business.
'Mission: Mompossible' began production in July and is scheduled to premiere on the 28th. It is a family coming-of-age drama about the children of two families: one led by a mother who has devoted her life to her family and another led by a mother who has lived for herself. Seong Jun-hae is directing, while Na Seung-hyeon is writing the script.
Fantagio previously took part in producing the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Manager Kim.' With the addition of the KBS production, the company has now secured a series of production credits across different broadcasters.
The entertainment industry has been watching Fantagio as it broadens its revenue sources from an artist-centered management business into content production, including dramas. If production projects continue, its business model combining management and production could become more clearly defined.
A Fantagio representative emphasized, "We are continuously producing works in various genres and building our experience," adding, "We plan to expand our production capabilities and business scope by broadening our project lineup."
