On New York Trip, President Lee Jae Myung Approves Appointments of Lee Hyoung-il, Kang Shin-chul and Hong Ji-seon

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung approved the appointment of Lee Hyoung-il as deputy prime minister and minister of Economy and Finance, Kang Shin-chul as minister of National Defense, and Hong Ji-seon as minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 22nd.
Kang Yoo-jung, a senior presidential spokesperson, said in a media notice that President Lee had approved the appointments of the three ministers, whose confirmation hearing reports had been adopted, on the same day Korean time. President Lee is visiting New York to attend the 81st UN General Assembly.
The confirmation hearing report for Lee Hyoung-il was adopted on the 17th by agreement between the ruling and opposition parties. The report included the Democratic Party of Korea's opinion that he was qualified and the People Power Party's opinion that he was unqualified.
The confirmation hearing report for Kang Shin-chul was adopted the same day under the leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea, as opposition lawmakers walked out in protest. Hong Ji-seon's report was adopted on the 21st by agreement between the ruling and opposition parties, and it likewise included both qualified and unqualified opinions.
President Lee nominated the three people as ministerial candidates on Aug. 30 as part of the formation of his administration's second-term Cabinet. With the approvals, the appointment processes for ministers overseeing economic policy, national defense, and land and transport have been completed.
