President Lee Arrives in New York; Keynote Address at the United Nations General Assembly Set for 22nd

Kennedy International Airport in the United States aboard the presidential aircraft on the 21st (local time). After arriving in New York, President Lee will begin his full schedule for the United Nations General Assembly.
First, President Lee is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the UN General Assembly in New York on the 22nd. He is expected to present his vision for reforming the UN to help resolve global challenges, along with ways South Korea can contribute. He will also explain his blueprint for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.
In addition, President Lee plans to meet with the Secretary-General of the United Nations and request the UN's attention and cooperation in promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
In particular, President Lee is reportedly likely to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York.
If a separate meeting between President Lee and President Trump takes place in New York, various issues could be discussed, including the deployment of troops to the Strait of Hormuz, investment in the United States, and U.S.-North Korea dialogue.
Even if the two leaders' contact is limited to an informal meeting rather than a formal summit, or to a brief encounter on the sidelines of a multilateral event, the two countries have a long list of issues to coordinate, including investment in the United States and contributions to the Strait of Hormuz. Attention is focused on what views the two leaders will exchange and what message they will deliver publicly.
The United States and South Korea are conducting final consultations on how to implement a total of $350 billion in investment in the United States. However, negotiations are reportedly facing difficulties in the final stage, as the two sides remain far apart over how to ensure 'commercial rationality' during the investment process.
Discussions are also continuing on practical contributions in the Strait of Hormuz. At a press conference on the 18th, President Lee emphasized, "There will be no troop deployment that involves participating in or intervening in a war." He added, "The Cheonghae Unit has already been deployed (to the Middle East) to respond to threats to the safety of our citizens, including pirates. It is true that we are reviewing and carefully considering ways to strengthen this mission."
