Hive Media, the film's investment and distribution company, said on the 21st that the movie had won the international audience award established by the Toronto International Film Festival last year. The award is selected through votes by festival audiences, making it especially meaningful as an achievement earned through the support of viewers who watched the film themselves.
"Assassin(s)" follows an investigation into the suspicions surrounding and forces behind the shooting of the first lady that plunged the Republic of Korea into shock on August 15, 1974. The film has been praised for delivering genre thrills and a profound lingering impression through its tense unraveling of the incident's unanswered questions and the stories of characters striving to uphold their respective beliefs.
It opens in theaters on the 23rd.
