Helping Deafblind People Move and Communicate... Miral Welfare Foundation Provides Refresher Training for Activity Support Workers

[Financial News] The Miral Welfare Foundation held refresher training for activity support workers to help deafblind people move safely and communicate more effectively.
According to the Miral Welfare Foundation on the 21st, the '2026 Refresher Training for Activity Support Workers Serving Deafblind People' was held at Milal Hall at the foundation in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 19th. This was the first time the foundation had provided refresher training for activity support workers serving deafblind people.
Deafblind people have simultaneous impairments of vision and hearing, which create complex difficulties in obtaining information, communicating, and moving around.
Depending on the severity of their disabilities, some may be able to use their remaining vision or hearing. Accordingly, activity support providers need to assess both the service user's level of vision and hearing and their familiar means of communication.
The training consisted of six programs. After covering the characteristics of deafblindness and the roles and support principles of activity support workers, the program addressed what deafblind people expect from their support workers, orientation and mobility guidance, and etiquette. Participants also learned various communication methods and took part in practical exercises applying them to real-life situations.
The foundation focused the training on reducing differences in communication skills and service quality among activity support workers. It plans to monitor activity support services in the field and build a collection of training models tailored to the characteristics of disabilities through cooperation between the Helen Keller Center and the Milal Disability Activity Support Center.
Hong Yu-mi, director of the Miral Welfare Foundation's Helen Keller Center, said, "We will carefully monitor matters to reduce communication difficulties that may arise in the field and, through consistent monitoring, ensure that service users and activity support workers can communicate comfortably with one another and work together."
