Ghent University Global Campus Proposes International Joint Research at Korea-New Zealand Science and Technology Cooperation Seminar

[Financial News]  Ghent University Global Campus proposed ways to turn science and technology cooperation between Korea and New Zealand into concrete international joint research. Drawing on its own experience participating in Horizon Europe, it proposed identifying joint projects in 2027 and establishing an international research consortium as an implementation model for cooperation between the two countries.
Ghent University Global Campus and MarineUgent Korea said on the 21st that they had participated in the "2026 Korea-New Zealand Science and Technology Cooperation Seminar," held on the 10th at Victoria University of Wellington in Wellington, New Zealand, and shared their experience with international joint research and plans for cooperation.
The seminar was co-hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in New Zealand, the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), and Victoria University of Wellington. More than 60 officials from the governments, universities, and research institutions of the two countries attended.
Park Ji-hye, director of MarineUgent Korea, introduced a case in which a project proposed by Ghent University Global Campus after forming an international consortium received the "STEP Seal of Excellence." She then proposed that Korea and New Zealand jointly identify Horizon Europe projects in 2027 and form an international consortium together.
Han Tae-jun, president of Ghent University Global Campus, identified trust among researchers and sustained government support as key conditions for international joint research during a panel discussion. He said, "Rather than pursuing a major project from the outset, we should achieve results through small-scale cooperation and use them as a foundation for developing broader cooperation."
The seminar also addressed Horizon Europe, quantum science and technology, and ways to promote research cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
