CCP to Hold Fifth Plenary Session of 20th Central Committee on Oct. 26-29: "Implement Xi Jinping Thought" [Lee Seok-woo's China 24]

[Financial News] The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will hold a plenary session of its Central Committee next month.
According to Xinhua News Agency on the 21st, the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party held a meeting chaired by Xi Jinping, the CCP general secretary and Chinese president. It decided to hold the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CCP in Beijing from Oct. 26 to 29.
At plenary sessions of the Central Committee, known as Central Committee plenums, major national policy directions and senior personnel matters involving the Party, government, and military are discussed; they also discuss major national policy directions and senior personnel matters involving the Party, government, and military.
The Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee is expected to focus on political and ideological "rectification" within the Party ahead of next year's Party Congress, which will determine whether Xi Jinping begins a fourth term. It is also expected to emphasize unity under Xi Jinping. 
The Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party heard a report on the solicitation of opinions, within a certain scope both inside and outside the Party, on the draft of the "Decision of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party on Several Major Issues Concerning Persistently Advancing Full and Strict Party Governance." It decided to reflect the proposed revisions and submit the document to the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee.
It added, "The entire Party must, from the strategic perspective of consolidating the Party's governing position and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, deeply recognize the importance and urgency of persistently advancing full and strict Party governance. It must properly rectify and resolve the prominent problems facing Party building, consolidate and develop the sound political situation created through Party governance, and open a new chapter in Party governance, rejuvenation, and strengthening in the new era."
Meanwhile, the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee could take personnel measures concerning senior officials who have successively fallen from power in the recent anti-corruption purge. When a senior official who holds a position on the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party falls from power after being implicated in corruption or another serious case, the Central Committee finally ratifies the disciplinary action against that official. Hong Kong and Taiwanese media outlets predicted that 30 to 40 positions on the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, including those held by military personnel, would be changed.
The Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party emphasized, "To persistently advance full and strict Party governance, it is necessary to fully implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and deeply study and implement Xi Jinping's thinking on Party building."
