Pear Production in Ulsan's Ulju County Increases Year on Year Despite Severe Drought

According to Ulju County, Ulsan, on the 21st, the fruit is expected to be somewhat smaller than usual due to this summer's drought. However, overall fruit set has been favorable, and total production is projected to be about 10% higher than in an average year.
Last year, abnormal low temperatures around the flowering period damaged flower buds and young fruit, reducing fruit set and production and resulting in relatively poor crop conditions. Ulju County has 1,010 pear farms covering a total of 369 hectares, but only about 8,589 tons of pears were produced.
Unlike last year, stable weather conditions continued from the early stages of growth this year. As a result, pear tree growth and fruit set have been favorable, and the overall quality of the fruit has also been assessed as relatively high.
A county official said, "Pear growers struggled because of the drought this summer, but fortunately, crop conditions were favorable, so this year's pear harvest is expected to be a bumper one. We will continue to do our best to improve the quality of Ulju pears and ensure stable production."
