Kumho Engineering & Construction Breaks Ground on Samsung Electronics’ Fläkt Korea Plant, Completion Set for 2028

[Financial News] Kumho Engineering & Construction has broken ground on Samsung Electronics’ Fläkt Korea plant. As FläktGroup’s first production base in Korea, the facility will manufacture heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) products for AI data centers and semiconductor plants.
Kumho Engineering & Construction announced on the 21st that it had held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Fläkt Korea plant at Samsung Electronics’ Gwangju site in Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. The plant will be built in the area of Samsung Electronics’ Gwangju 3 Campus in Buk-gu, Gwangju.
The building will have one above-ground floor and a total floor area of 23,588 square meters, equivalent to approximately 3.3 soccer fields. It will house an HVAC main plant, office space, research and testing laboratories, warehouses, and employee amenities. Completion is scheduled for February 2028.
HVAC is a system that integrates the management of cooling, heating, ventilation, and air quality. It serves as core infrastructure for AI data centers and semiconductor plants, which require large-scale cooling and precise temperature and humidity control.
Through this project, Samsung Electronics will establish its first domestic production base for the FläktGroup business it acquired. Using the new production lines, the company plans to develop its Gwangju site into a global production hub covering both AI appliances and HVAC.
