KB Kookmin Card’s Pointree Can Now Be Exchanged for 54 Local Currencies

[Financial News] KB Kookmin Card is significantly expanding the areas where Pointree, the integrated rewards program of KB Financial Group, can be converted into local currency and used. By allowing customers to exchange their points for local currency and spend them at affiliated stores operated by small business owners, the company aims to improve point utilization while boosting local consumption.
KB Kookmin Card announced on the 21st that it will expand its Pointree-to-local-currency conversion service in partnership with KONA I starting on the 6th.
As part of the expansion, 36 local governments, including Gyeonggi Regional Currency and Cheongju Pay, will be added to the existing service area. Customers will consequently be able to convert Pointree into local currency through the local-currency apps of 54 local governments nationwide.
The service is available to KB Kookmin Card members and KONA I local-currency members. Each Pointree can be converted at a value of KRW 1. Customers can exchange a minimum of 10 Pointree points in one-point increments, with a monthly limit of 100,000 Pointree points.
Converted Pointree can be used at merchants that accept the relevant local currency. KB Kookmin Card expects the expansion of Pointree’s usage to small-business stores to improve customer convenience while also helping stimulate local consumption.
KB Kookmin Card and KONA I said they plan to channel customers’ points into local spending through the collaboration. The companies forecast that increased use of local currency will have a positive effect on small-business sales and the revitalization of neighborhood commercial districts.
“We expanded the areas covered by the local-currency conversion service so customers can use Pointree more conveniently,” a KB Kookmin Card official said. “We hope that Pointree spending will support small-business sales and local economic growth by directing consumption to local communities.”
