Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education Launches Peer Relationship Conflict Mediation Program

[Financial News Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-su] The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education is operating a Peer Relationship Conflict Mediation Program to prevent conflicts between students from escalating into school violence and to support the restoration of relationships.
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 21st that it would begin the program on the 20th for students whose accumulated peer relationship conflicts require mediation, although they have not been reported as school violence cases, or whose conflicts have intensified and risk leading to school violence.
Teachers and conflict mediation experts from professional organizations will participate in the program, assess the circumstances of students and their guardians, and support dialogue and communication.
The program consists of preliminary, main, and follow-up sessions. During the preliminary session, experts meet individually with the students to understand the circumstances of the conflict and their hopes for restoring the relationship.
In the main session, the students involved engage in dialogue to understand the causes and effects of the conflict and seek solutions. Once they reach mutual agreements, they write an "Our Promise" document, and the follow-up session examines whether the promises have been kept and how the relationship has changed.
An official from the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education said, "We aim to transform conflicts from something resolved solely through punishment and disputes into an educational opportunity for students to understand each other's perspectives and experience responsible dialogue."
