[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 21st, "I have not yet decided" whether to accept the resignation of Kang Hoon-sik, Chief of Staff to the President.
At the 47th Senior Secretaries and Aides Meeting held at Yeomingwan in Cheong Wa Dae that afternoon, President Lee said, "There may also be health issues, and it seems that our chief of staff said today that he would finally like to try graduating." He added, "I have not yet decided what I will do, but in any case, I want to say that many people, including our chief of staff, have worked hard during that long and physically demanding period."
President Lee said, "The work of Cheong Wa Dae aides is demanding. Although all of you work very hard, coming in at 6:30 a.m. and working day and night for a long period, I imagine you must have faced many difficulties."
He added, "Still, I hope you take comfort in thinking that it may not be all that great compared with the difficulties our people face in their daily lives on the ground."
Earlier, Seong Gi-hong, Senior Secretary for Public Affairs and Communications at Cheong Wa Dae, said at a briefing held at the Chunchugwan Press Center that Chief Kang had offered his resignation to President Lee that morning.
Another Cheong Wa Dae official told reporters, "The president has repeatedly said at last week's press conference that he was to blame for the public's view of state affairs," explaining, "As the chief of staff responsible for advising the president, he offered his resignation as a way of taking overall responsibility."
