[Financial News] GS Retail awarded 75 million won in scholarships to 47 undergraduate and graduate students majoring in consumer studies. This year, it also introduced an on-site home shopping broadcast experience program for scholarship recipients for the first time.
According to industry sources on the 21st, GS Retail held the 2026 GS SHOP Consumer Leader Scholarship Certificate Presentation Ceremony on the 18th at GS Gangseo N Tower in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. The company provided 1.5 million won each to 38 undergraduates selected from 12 universities nationwide and 2 million won each to nine graduate students.
The GS SHOP Consumer Leader Scholarship Program has operated since 2009 to develop talent specializing in consumer affairs. GS Retail sponsors the program, while the Korean Consumer Policy and Education Association and the Korean Association of Consumer Affairs organize it. Through this year, the program has supported a total of 832 undergraduate and graduate students majoring in consumer studies, providing a cumulative 1.2 billion won in scholarships.
This year's scholarship recipients were selected through a comprehensive assessment. The evaluation considered quantitative factors, including academic performance, consumer affairs-related certifications, and education and promotional activities targeting consumers, as well as personal statements, descriptions of consumer-related activities, and proposals for creating GS SHOP customers.
After the ceremony, the scholarship recipients heard presentations on the major businesses of GS Retail and GS SHOP, then toured a home shopping broadcast studio and broadcast control room. They also observed an actual live broadcast and learned about the production and transmission process, the company said.
Bae Jae-seong, head of Business Support at GS Retail's Home Shopping Business Unit, said, "The ability to deeply understand consumers and create new value is critically important in the retail industry. We will continue to support the development of future talent."
