Kim Sang-hwan, President of the Constitutional Court of Korea, Visits Italian and Slovenian Constitutional Courts; Presents on "Constitutional Adjudication in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Era"

[Financial News] Kim Sang-hwan, president of the Constitutional Court of Korea, will officially visit the Constitutional Courts of Italy and Slovenia before attending the seventh General Assembly of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) in Uzbekistan. At the assembly, he will also present the Constitutional Court of Korea's response to the AI era.
The Constitutional Court of Korea said on the 21st that President Kim will depart on the 22nd with Secretary General Son In-hyeok for official invitation visits to the Constitutional Court of Italy and the Constitutional Court of Slovenia, as well as attendance at the AACC General Assembly.
Kim will first travel to Italy to hold talks with Giovanni Amoroso, president of the Constitutional Court of Italy. They will discuss current constitutional adjudication issues in the two countries and ways to strengthen cooperation between the courts. He will also chair a seminar jointly hosted by the two constitutional courts.
At the joint seminar, Korea and Italy will share their constitutional adjudication systems and major precedents. Secretary General Son In-hyeok will present an overview of Korea's constitutional adjudication system, while Senior Research Officer Ha Min-jeong will explain the functions and role of the impeachment adjudication system.
On the 28th, Kim and Secretary General Son will travel to Slovenia for official talks with Rok Čeferin, president of the Constitutional Court of Slovenia. The two sides are expected to discuss ways to expand exchanges and cooperation between the constitutional courts of the two countries ahead of an official visit to Korea by a delegation from the Constitutional Court of Slovenia scheduled for next year.
Kim and his delegation will then travel to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, to attend the seventh AACC General Assembly and Board meeting, which will be held on the 1st and 2nd of next month. This year's General Assembly will be held under the theme "Constitutional Adjudication in the Era of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence." Kim will present on "The Constitutional Court of Korea's Response to the Advent of the Artificial Intelligence Era," sharing Korea's experience in constitutional adjudication and its response strategy for the AI era with member institutions.
At the AACC Board meeting held alongside the General Assembly, agenda items on external cooperation and the institution to serve as the next chair will be deliberated. As secretary general of the AACC Research Secretariat, Secretary General Son will report on the current operations and achievements of the Research Secretariat run by the Constitutional Court of Korea.
Through the visits, the Constitutional Court of Korea plans to deepen understanding of the constitutional adjudication systems of various countries and strengthen international cooperation to protect fundamental rights and advance the rule of law. Through the AACC General Assembly, it will share Korea's experience and achievements in constitutional adjudication and seek to expand exchanges among constitutional adjudication institutions across Asia.
