2026 Gangneung ITS World Congress D-30: Final Preparations in Full Swing

【Financial News, Gangneung—Kim Gi-seop】The 2026 Gangneung ITS World Congress, which will explore the future of advanced mobility, has launched an all-out promotional campaign with 30 days remaining until its opening.
According to Gangneung on the 21st, the city completed its on-site infrastructure inspection with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and the ITS World Congress Organizing Committee, bringing preparations for the congress to a smooth conclusion. On the 8th, Gangneung held the final inspection meeting of its administrative support team to review 51 key action items for the successful hosting of the congress, welcoming guests and revitalizing the local economy.
In particular, a rehearsal was held on the 17th and 18th in conjunction with the Korean Society of Transportation to review the congress's overall operating procedures. Officials also carefully inspected major facilities, including the main venue, Gangneung Convention Center, event circulation routes and technical tour routes.
In the academic program, the selection of 449 papers and the organization of 193 sessions have been finalized. All 434 exhibition booths showcasing ITS technologies from around the world have been sold. Advance reservations for the Gangneung City Urban Information Center and the ITS experience program, both key technical tour destinations, closed early, reflecting continued interest from transportation and mobility officials worldwide. More than 70 countries have registered to participate, putting the congress on track to achieve its target of 90 countries.
The local community is also heating up, with a 'citizen cheering relay' gaining momentum to ensure the congress's success and build excitement. Gangneung has prepared a wide range of side events for residents and tourists to enjoy together.
The free program will begin with a drone light show featuring 4,000 drones on the opening night. It will also include a special ice show featuring national figure-skating team members Cha Jun-hwan and Lee Hae-in, science and technology activities, cultural and arts experiences, busking performances and a local market at the outdoor plaza of Gangneung Olympic Park. The exhibition hall can be visited free of charge with advance registration.
Gang Geun-seon, director of Gangneung's Special Self-Governing Promotion Task Force, said, "With 449 papers and all 434 exhibition booths sold out, registrations from more than 70 countries have brought us close to reaching our target of 90 countries." He added, "With stages for citizens to enjoy, including a 4,000-drone show and a special ice show, we will make the most of the remaining month and ensure that Gangneung makes a lasting impression on the world."
