Park Ji-won: "Since President Lee Jae Myung Apologized, Ruling Party Leader Kim Min-seok Should Apologize Too"

[Financial News] Regarding President Lee Jae Myung's remark at a recent press conference, "It is all because of my shortcomings," Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Park Ji-won argued that "Kim Min-seok, as leader of the ruling party, should sincerely apologize to the people for what he did wrong."
Park said this on the 21st while appearing on Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show': "As a senior lawmaker of the ruling party, I would like to apologize for the political reality we have created, which has reached the point where the president can make a sincere apology to the public."
He continued, "It was our Democratic Party that made the president say he had done wrong, so I am apologizing at least on my own behalf. That should be enough, and even now, we should not nitpick and say that something is lacking."
Regarding the petition letter cited as one of the reasons behind the resignation of Kim Seung-won, a former nominee for Minister of Justice, Park said he had been unaware of it. Stressing, "I would have opposed it if I had known," Park said, "Kim Min-seok probably did not know either. I discussed Kim Seung-won's resignation with Kim Min-seok in Haenam County on the night before the resignation was announced."
He added, "Although I was unaware of the allegations related to sexual harassment, public sentiment was such that people could not trust the matter itself. We aligned our view that, whatever the circumstances, it would be better for him to step down if the public was so strongly opposed."
Regarding reports that the former nominee had met with the petition's authors and tried to hush up the matter, Park said, "If he filed a complaint despite knowing that, Kim Seung-won was at fault, and whether those allegations are true should be investigated by law enforcement authorities. I will not simply protect him unconditionally."
Meanwhile, regarding independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, who led efforts to raise allegations involving the former nominee, Park argued, "If lawmaker Han made those disclosures based on materials that could have been in the prosecution's 'cabinet,' he must take responsibility. If Kim Seung-won is at fault, he should be investigated, and lawmaker Han should also be investigated."
