Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) and Dongseo University to Hold International Academic Forum on October 8

[Financial News] The Jiseok Film Research Institute of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) announced on the 21st that it will hold an international academic forum titled "New Creativity in the Age of AI: Asking Where Humans Belong" in collaboration with Dongseo University's STELLAR ARTS INSTITUTE, Graduate Department of Visual Content, and Graduate Department of Design.
The forum, co-hosted by Forum BIFF and Dongseo University, will take place at the Video Industry Center on October 8.

Professor Jaakko Suominen of the Department of Digital Culture at the University of Turku in Finland will join the forum's discussions based on his research into digital culture. Ren Changzhen, a documentary director and producer formerly with China Central Television (CCTV), will also participate as the creator of the internationally acclaimed documentary "China at the Tip of the Tongue."
Professor MORIMOTO Yuki of the Media Design program at Kyushu University's Institute of Design will participate from the perspective of media design research. Antonia Kim, representative and director of AITONIA, is an AI filmmaker whose notable works include the AI films "CHOON" and "The Day I Saved a Fish." The four presenters, who come from different production environments and academic backgrounds, will examine changes in creativity and the role of humans in the age of AI from various perspectives.
Following the presentations, documentary director and writer Zhou Yijun, a former war correspondent for the Xinhua News Agency, and Lee Mu-yeong, a professor in the Department of Film at Dongseo University's Lim Kwon-taek College of Film and Arts as well as a film director, will join the discussion as panelists.
Rather than treating AI merely as a tool for improving production efficiency, the forum will focus on how AI is transforming the structure of creative agency and authorship, as well as sensation, experience, dialogue, and collaboration.
As technology becomes capable of carrying out an increasing number of creative processes, the forum will place the question of "who creates, why, and based on what judgments" at the forefront, rather than asking only "what can be created." By connecting perspectives ranging from actual AI filmmaking cases to media design and digital culture research and experiences from the documentary field, the forum is expected to provide a broad examination of the meaning of human creativity and the future creative environment.
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will be held around the Busan Cinema Center from October 6 to 15.
