President Lee Jae Myung Presents Appointment Certificate to Kim Sung-soo, Shares Tea with Cho Hee-dae

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung presented an appointment certificate to newly appointed Supreme Court Justice Kim Sung-soo on the 21st. Kim became the first Supreme Court justice appointed since the Lee Jae Myung administration began.
According to Kang Yoo-jung, a senior presidential spokesperson at Cheong Wa Dae, President Lee presented the appointment certificate to Kim at 10 a.m. that day in the main reception room of Cheong Wa Dae's main building. Former Supreme Court Justice Lee Heung-gu, whose term had ended, was awarded a state decoration.
Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae of the Supreme Court of Korea also attended the ceremony. Afterward, President Lee held a tea meeting with Chief Justice Cho, former Justice Lee Heung-gu, and newly appointed Justice Kim Sung-soo.
President Lee approved Kim's appointment on the 18th. Earlier, the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea passed a motion consenting to Kim's appointment during a plenary session on the 17th.
Kim joined the judiciary as a judge at the Gwangju District Court in 1998 and handled civil, criminal, and administrative cases for approximately 28 years. He later served as a presiding judge at the Suwon High Court and as chief professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute.
On the 18th of last month, Chief Justice Cho recommended Kim, then a presiding judge at the Seoul High Court, to President Lee for appointment as the successor to former Supreme Court Justice Lee Heung-gu.
Meanwhile, Cheong Wa Dae did not submit an appointment-consent motion for Presiding Judge Son Bong-gi, who had been recommended as the successor to former Supreme Court Justice Rho Tae-ak, who retired last March. The decision came because Chief Justice Cho had recommended Judge Son in writing without prior consultation with Cheong Wa Dae. On the 28th of last month, Cheong Wa Dae asked Chief Justice Cho to submit a new recommendation for a Supreme Court justice candidate.
