Cho Hyun Meets UN General Assembly President, Begins Preliminary Coordination Ahead of President Lee's Speech

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cho Hyun met with the president of the UN General Assembly on Sept. 20 on the occasion of the high-level session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Cho Hyun met with President Khalilur Rahman and said South Korea would actively contribute to discussions at the 81st United Nations General Assembly as a responsible UN member state. The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in new technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen UN-centered multilateralism.
Rahman, Bangladesh's foreign minister, was elected president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly at a meeting held in early June. Accordingly, Rahman assumed the presidency this month from his predecessor, former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
Meanwhile, Cho Hyun held separate talks with the foreign ministers of Panama and Bahrain, exchanging views on bilateral relations, substantive cooperation, UN-based cooperation and regional affairs.
Cho Hyun held bilateral talks with Panama's Foreign Minister Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha Vásquez. The two sides noted that South Korea and Panama had worked closely together to promote international peace and security after assuming nonpermanent seats on the UN Security Council last year. They agreed to continue cooperating in multilateral forums, including the UN.
Cho Hyun also met with Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and called for the two countries to revitalize their relations with the next 50 years in mind. The two ministers discussed the current situation in the Middle East and agreed to continue cooperating on the international stage, including through the UN, to promote peace and stability in the region.
