LetsRun Park Yeongcheon Serves Meals to Seniors Ahead of Chuseok

[Financial News] LetsRun Park Yeongcheon, which opened on the 13th of this month, is showing its commitment to the community by serving warm meals to local seniors ahead of Chuseok.
Korea Racing Authority (KRA)'s LetsRun Park Yeongcheon (Yeongcheon Racecourse), in partnership with the Yeongcheon City Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, held a Chuseok meal service and welfare check-in program on the 18th at the Shared Table Community free meal center in the Yunseong Morning Town complex in Geumho-eup, Yeongcheon City. The program served 50 residents aged 70 and older, the KRA said on the 21st.
The seniors were served glutinous rice, beef and seaweed soup, chive pancakes, seasoned young radish greens, napa cabbage kimchi and songpyeon rice cakes.
Dedicated staff and a dietitian from the Yeongcheon City Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, along with the local volunteer organization Ieumi Volunteer Group, prepared the meal and checked on the seniors.
Yeongcheon has a high demand for welfare services due to its aging population. Residents aged 65 and older account for 37.2% of the total population, far exceeding the national average of 22.1%. In Geumho-eup, where the program took place, the share of residents aged 65 and older reaches 43.0%.
The Shared Table Community has served as a local welfare hub since January this year, going beyond simply providing meals to check on seniors and help prevent social isolation.
Alongside year-round free meals, it also provides community-based welfare services, including birthday celebrations, food assistance, nourishing meals during the summer dog days and kimchi-sharing events.
The event was part of a community-focused social contribution initiative aimed at addressing local issues. LetsRun Park Yeongcheon has been preparing the initiative since March in cooperation with the Yeongcheon City Comprehensive Social Welfare Center and other local welfare organizations.
The KRA provided 5 million won in designated donations to support the operation of the Shared Table Community. The funds were used to purchase staple and side-dish ingredients and cover other operating costs for the free meal center.
A KRA official said, "The true opening of LetsRun Park Yeongcheon begins not merely with opening the facility's doors, but with becoming a neighbor in the lives of Yeongcheon residents. We will work closely with the Yeongcheon City Comprehensive Social Welfare Center and the broader community to provide practical support in addressing local issues, including population aging and welfare blind spots."
