Foreigners and Institutions Buy, ‘Samjeonnix’ Jumps... KOSPI Attempts to Reclaim 7,000 [fn Morning Market Update]

[Financial News] The KOSPI Composite Index rose above 7,000 intraday, buoyed by simultaneous buying from foreign investors and institutions. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix both advanced, while the medical and precision instruments, retail, and electrical and electronics sectors also showed strength.
As of 10:06 a.m. on the 21st, the KOSPI was up 83.97 points, or 1.22%, from the previous session at 6978.20. The index opened at 6938.34, up 44.11 points, or 0.64%, rose as high as 7007.10 during the session, and is attempting to reclaim the 7,000 mark.
Foreign investors and institutions were net buyers in the KOSPI market. At the same time, institutions had made net purchases worth 250.367 billion won, while foreign investors had bought a net 149.431 billion won. Retail investors had made net sales of 695.963 billion won, while other corporations had recorded net purchases of 299.313 billion won. Among institutions, financial investment firms bought 204.319 billion won and pension funds and others purchased 94.268 billion won, leading the buying.
Large-cap semiconductor stocks also supported the index's rise. Samsung Electronics was trading at 270,250 won, up 3.54%. SK hynix stood at 1,872,000 won, up 0.81%.
By sector, medical and precision instruments stood out with a 4.12% gain. Retail rose 2.21%, electrical and electronics 1.78%, financials 1.49%, manufacturing 1.33%, and insurance 1.32%.
Performance varied sharply by market-cap category. The KOSPI large-cap index rose 1.37%, while the mid-cap and small-cap indexes fell 0.48% and 0.42%, respectively. A total of 313 stocks advanced, 546 declined, and 50 were unchanged.
Meanwhile, KOSDAQ was up 8.76 points, or 1.06%, at 835.88.
