Kim Yang-ho, Former Samcheok Mayor, Named 5th Commissioner of Gangwon State Free Economic Zone Authority; Takes Office on the 21st

【Financial News, Samcheok = Reporter Kim Ki-seop】Kim Yang-ho, former mayor of Samcheok-si, has become the new leader responsible for overseeing development and investment attraction in the Gangwon State Free Economic Zone after more than 30 years in local administration.
Gangwon State said on the 21st that it had appointed Kim Yang-ho, former mayor of Samcheok-si, as the fifth commissioner of the Gangwon State Free Economic Zone Authority. The state conducted an open recruitment process for the position in August to select a suitable candidate to actively advance development projects, including efforts to attract investment to the free economic zone. Kim was ultimately appointed following a fair selection process and prior consultation with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Commissioner Kim will receive his appointment certificate from Governor Woo Sang-ho at the Trade Consultation Room in the state government complex on the morning of the 21st. He will then hold an inauguration ceremony at 5 p.m. in the main conference room of the Gangwon State Free Economic Zone Authority and officially begin his duties.
After graduating from Samcheok High School and the Department of Public Administration at Kangwon National University (KNU), Commissioner Kim served as chief of the secretariat at a basic local government, a member of the 7th and 8th Gangwon State Council, and mayor of Samcheok-si during the sixth and seventh popularly elected terms. He is a regional development and investment-attraction expert with more than 30 years of field experience.
During his tenure as mayor of Samcheok-si, he led the cancellation of plans to build a nuclear power plant. He also introduced the hydrogen industry as a core policy for the first time in Gangwon State, securing the designation of a regulatory-free zone for liquid hydrogen and attracting the ESS Safety Verification Center. In addition, he attracted large-scale private investment, including Sol Beach Samcheok, as well as the Samcheok Maritime Cable Car, and contributed to confirming the priority section of the East-West Axis 6 Expressway between Yeongwol and Samcheok.
Over the next three years, Commissioner Kim plans to accelerate the Mangsang District development project and focus on attracting investment to the Bukpyeong District and Okgye District. His goal is to deliver tangible results for the Gangwon State Free Economic Zone.
