Exploring Wildlife and Picking Up Trash at Yangjaecheon Stream: Lotte Hi-Mart Practices ESG

[Financial News] Lotte Hi-Mart is putting ESG management into practice by organizing an ecology exploration program for children and environmental cleanup activities for employees.
According to industry sources on the 21st, Lotte Hi-Mart held the "Hi" Eco Exploration Team program for about 30 elementary school students at Gaepo Neighborhood Park in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 19th.
The "Hi" Eco Exploration Team is a social contribution program that Lotte Hi-Mart has operated since last year. It was designed to help children explore various species, including birds and insects, alongside ecology experts and develop a greater interest in science.
The participating children explored and documented wildlife, including birds and insects, while walking around the Yangjaecheon Stream area. Ecology experts from the University of Seoul Wild Bird Research Society and the National Institute of Forest Science also took part, providing information about the organisms inhabiting the area. After the exploration, participants shared the species they had discovered on site.
An environmental cleanup plogging activity involving employees and their families was also held that day. Participants walked through Gaepo Neighborhood Park near Lotte Hi-Mart's headquarters and collected household waste such as disposable items and plastic bags.
Lotte Hi-Mart has designated September as the "Month of Focused Environmental Protection Practices" and is also running various programs, including environmental education for employees, a photo contest showcasing environmental protection practices, and a waste separation campaign.
Kim Min-seop, head of transparency management at Lotte Hi-Mart, said, "We launched these activities to spark children's interest in ecology exploration and give employees opportunities to take part directly in improving the local environment." He added, "Lotte Hi-Mart will continue its ESG initiatives through social contribution programs in various areas, including children and local communities."
