Community Chest of Korea Welcomes 4,000th Honor Society Member; Jeju April 3 Compensation Donated to Neighbors

[Financial News] The late Kim Eul-saeng, a bereaved family member of victims of the Jeju April 3 Incident, donated money during her lifetime and received compensation for damages. Combined with a donation from her son, the funds became KRW 100 million in donations for neighbors in need.
According to the Community Chest of Korea on the 21st, Kim joined the Honor Society as a special member, becoming its 4,000th member nationwide. The membership ceremony was held at the Jeju branch of the Community Chest of Korea on the 18th.
The donation consisted of KRW 26 million that Kim gave during her lifetime, KRW 50 million in compensation for damages from the Jeju April 3 Incident, and KRW 24 million contributed by her son, Kim Chun-bo. The compensation accounted for half of the total donation, while the remaining half came from donations by Kim and her son. Her commitment to sharing continued even after her death.
Since 1994, Kim Chun-bo has anonymously helped neighbors in need and became known as a "faceless farmer angel." In 2014, he donated KRW 200 million saved through farming and became the Honor Society's 708th member nationwide. Kim Chun-bo's children are also members, making this enrollment the first time that three generations of the family have been listed in the Honor Society.
Kim said, "I find it meaningful that I can leave behind the pain of the April 3 Incident that my mother carried throughout her life, along with our family's feelings, as a donation for neighbors in need."
The Honor Society is a group of individuals who have donated at least KRW 100 million or pledged to donate at least KRW 100 million within five years. A special member is an individual designated as a representative after a family member or a third party donates at least KRW 100 million on their behalf.
The group was launched in December 2007, modeled after the Tocqueville Society of the World Community Chest. Its first member joined in May of the following year. Cumulative donations have reached KRW 449.5 billion to date. Family Honor, which allows families to participate together, includes 1,109 people from 486 families.
