[Financial News] Busan Metropolitan City Government is expanding support for public delivery apps to help small business owners struggling with platform commissions charged by major delivery services and the prolonged downturn in domestic consumption. It will distribute 200,000 dedicated discount coupons and link them to BUSAN Pay cashback to encourage consumers to use public delivery apps.
According to the city on the 21st, it will spend a total project budget of KRW 1 billion from the 21st through December 15 to distribute approximately 200,000 public delivery app-only discount coupons to users of BUSAN Pay and the public delivery app Ttaenggyeoyo.
The coupons will be offered in two types.
The first is a consumer spending revitalization coupon linked to BUSAN Pay spending. Users will receive a KRW 5,000 discount coupon for Ttaenggyeoyo based on their monthly spending on BUSAN Pay.
The other is an instant discount coupon for Ttaenggyeoyo users. Customers who pay at least KRW 20,000 with BUSAN Pay can receive an immediate KRW 5,000 discount.
Citizens who sign up for Ttaenggyeoyo from the 21st can receive a coupon if they meet the required payment amount.
Those who receive both coupons can use them together. The coupons can be used at BUSAN Pay-affiliated merchants among Ttaenggyeoyo's participating merchants.
In addition, customers who pay with the local currency BUSAN Pay on Ttaenggyeoyo can also receive the BUSAN Pay cashback rate in effect at the time.
The cashback rate has been increased to 15% through the 30th of this month, so consumers may enjoy greater effective savings when using it with the discount coupons. However, the program may end early if the relevant budget is exhausted, after which the cashback rate will be adjusted to 10%.
The city estimates that distributing the consumer spending revitalization coupons will expand new sign-ups and repeat use of the public delivery app and increase small business sales by approximately KRW 5.6 billion or more.
Mayor Chun Jae-soo said, "Providing consumer spending revitalization coupons will meaningfully reduce small business owners' delivery cost burden and breathe new life into the local economy by increasing sales through expanded use of the public delivery app."
