"You're So Full of Yourself, It's Off-Putting": 84-Year-Old Criticizes Lee Young-ja to Her Face Without Recognizing Her

[Financial News] Broadcaster Lee Young-ja laughed off an 84-year-old's remark after the elder failed to recognize her: "You're so full of yourself that you're off-putting."

On the 20th, Lee Young-ja uploaded a video of her visit to Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market on her YouTube channel, 'Lee Young-ja TV.' While looking around for seasonal autumn foods, she happened to strike up a conversation with an 84-year-old at the market.

The 84-year-old stared at Lee Young-ja for a while but failed to realize that she was the real Lee Young-ja, saying, "You look like Lee Young-ja." The elder then complimented her appearance, saying, "You're prettier than Lee Young-ja."

However, the answer changed when someone accompanying the elder asked whether they liked Lee Young-ja. The 84-year-old replied firmly, "I don't like her," then added, "She acts so full of herself that she's off-putting." Unaware that the person standing in front of them was Lee Young-ja, the elder spoke candidly.

Lee Young-ja laughed heartily despite the unexpected harsh criticism. She then quipped, "I'm appetizing," and continued the conversation.

The 84-year-old acknowledged Lee Young-ja's broadcasting career and financial success, then went on to discuss the fact that she was unmarried. The elder also asked her to pass along a message: "If you meet Lee Young-ja, tell her that being humble keeps her from being off-putting." Lee Young-ja heard the comment directly without revealing her identity.

Lee Young-ja never revealed that she was Lee Young-ja. After the conversation, she treated the elder to coffee and said, "When will I ever get to buy you coffee again?" When asked her age, she also joked, "I feel like I've even lived through the Korean War."

While touring Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market, Lee Young-ja also shared her experience of selling goods during college. She sold salted mackerel to raise her tuition, which was 500,000 won at the time, and traveled to various five-day markets to sell it. She said she learned how to naturally become close to strangers through the experience.

She also sampled sea urchin, oysters, and sushi at the market before trying her hand at cleaning fish and slicing sashimi. Although it was her first time wielding a knife on a large fish, she handled it with relative skill and earned praise from the on-site instructor.
