Transportation Fare Refunds and Eco-Friendly Benefits on One Card: 'Moduui Green Card' to Launch in October

[Financial News] The Moduui Green Card, which combines public transit fare refunds with benefits for eco-friendly consumption, will be launched this October. Users will be able to receive benefits from both programs with one card, without having to obtain separate Moduui and Green Cards as before.
According to the Metropolitan Transport Commission under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment on the 21st, the Moduui Green Card will be introduced through six card issuers, including BC Card, Gwangju Bank, Jeju Bank, Kyongnam Bank, Suhyup, and iM Bank.
The new card will provide public transit fare refunds offered by Moduui Card, incentives for purchasing eco-friendly and low-carbon products through Green Card, and discounts on public-facility fees as standard benefits.
Moduui Card is a policy that refunds part of users' transportation expenses when they use public transit at least 15 times a month. It has been in effect since January this year, adding a fixed-amount refund option to the percentage-based refund system of the existing K-Pass. The number of users surpassed 6 million just eight months after its introduction, and the government expects it to reach 7 million by the end of the year.
Green Card is a program introduced in July 2011 that awards Eco Money points to users who practice an eco-friendly lifestyle. The accumulated points can be used for cash back or deductions from card payment balances.
Additional benefits will also be offered by individual card issuers. Users will receive extra Eco Money points for payments related to eco-friendly transportation, including city buses and subways, as well as KTX, SRT, intercity buses, electric and hydrogen vehicle charging, and shared mobility services.
The two ministries will sign a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, and BC Card at BC Card's headquarters in Seoul later that afternoon to promote the Moduui Green Card. The agreement's key objective is to integrate the card issuance and benefits systems into one, reducing the inconvenience for users who previously had to carry two separate cards.
Kim Yong-seok, chair of the Metropolitan Transport Commission, said, "The Moduui Green Card connects transportation and eco-friendly policies on a single platform, allowing people to save on transportation costs and enjoy eco-friendly consumption benefits with one card."
