23,400 homes to be supplied in Goyang Daegok and Uiwang Ojeon-Wanggok; construction to begin in 2029

[Financial News] Areas in Daejang-dong, Goyang City, and Ojeon-dong and Wanggok-dong, Uiwang-si, have been designated as new public housing districts. A total of 23,400 households will be supplied in the areas.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) said on the 22nd that all procedures to designate the Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence and Uiwang Ojeon-Wanggok public housing districts had been completed. Following the announcement of the candidate sites in November 2024, the projects underwent consultations with residents, a strategic environmental impact assessment, a disaster impact assessment, and a public-interest review by the Central Land Tribunal. They recently passed review by the Central Urban Planning Committee.
The Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence District will be developed on 1.994 million square meters in Daejang-dong, Goyang City. The tentative housing supply is 9,400 households.
MOLIT explained that the district can make use of existing living infrastructure in the surrounding Ilsan New Town, Goyang Changneung District and Goyang Hwajeong District.
The transportation network is centered on Daegok Station. Five rail lines stop at the station, including Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit Line A (GTX-A), Subway Line 3, the Gyeongui–Jungang Line, the Seohae Line and the Gyooe Line. Major arterial roads in the Seoul metropolitan area, including the Capital Region First Ring Expressway, Gangbyeonbuk-ro, Jayu Motorway and the Seoul–Munsan Expressway, are also nearby.
The Uiwang Ojeon-Wanggok District will be developed on 1.876 million square meters in Ojeon-dong and Wanggok-dong, Uiwang-si. The district will provide 14,000 households.
The Uiwang-Gunpo-Ansan New Town, Uiwang Gocheon District and Uiwang Baegun Valley are located around the project site. The Gwacheon–Bongdam Urban Expressway and Gyeongsu-daero are accessible, while Uiwang City Hall Station (tentative name) on the Dongtan–Indeogwon Line, scheduled to open in 2029, is planned about 700 meters away.
To shorten the housing supply timeline, the government began preparing district plans for the two sites before their official designation. After establishing metropolitan transportation improvement measures and conducting related impact assessments, it plans to approve the district plans in the second half of 2027 and begin construction of the first housing projects in 2029.
Jung Woo-jin, head of MOLIT's Housing Supply Promotion Headquarters, said, "We will make every effort to move the projects forward swiftly by applying the Aug. 13 plan for the rapid supply of housing and to provide sufficient homes at the right time."
