KISA's Internet Address Resource Management Capabilities Receive International Recognition

[Financial News] Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) passed a review of Internet address management practices in the Asia-Pacific region, earning recognition that Korea's Internet address resource management system meets international standards.
KISA said on the 20th that it had passed the "review of Internet address resource management" conducted by the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), an Internet address management body in the region, for Internet address management agencies across the Asia-Pacific.
APNIC is an international nonprofit organization that manages and distributes Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and autonomous system (AS) numbers across 56 countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific. It has conducted reviews since 2023 to verify that Internet address resources are accurately registered and managed in accordance with international policies.
This year's review covered Internet address management agencies in seven countries, including Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Japan and China. It examined allocation records from approximately the past 10 years.
KISA, Korea's national Internet address management agency, conducted a comprehensive review of address resources allocated to 1,097 member organizations, including domestic telecommunications operators and companies, along with related records. The resources included approximately 112 million Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) addresses, 5,261 Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) blocks and 1,105 AS numbers.
The review confirmed that KISA had managed Internet address resources in accordance with international policies. As a result, the existing system for processing domestic operators' IP address applications in Korea, without individual verification by APNIC, can remain in place.
Based on the review results, KISA will also move to strengthen routing security. Starting in the second half of this year, it plans to open a "routing security testbed" to member organizations and provide guidance on how to register route-origin certificates.
In particular, KISA will support domestic telecommunications operators and companies in adopting the routing security framework, Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI). RPKI is an international standard framework in which IP address owners register valid routing information with electronic signatures, while telecommunications operators verify the information and block forged routes.
Lee Sang-jung, president of KISA, said, "Accurate management of Internet address resources is the foundation of stable Internet operations and routing security. We will create a safer Internet environment by supporting domestic telecommunications operators and companies in adopting a routing security framework."
