'0.017 Points' Short of Bronze: Lee Yong-hyun Finishes Sixth in Changquan [Nagoya Asian Games]

At the men's Changquan event in Wushu taolu held at Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall in Nagoya, Japan, on the 20th, Lee Yong-hyun earned 5.00 points for quality of movements, 2.703 points for performance, and 2.00 points for difficulty, for a total of 9.703 points. He ranked sixth among the 21 competitors.
Indonesia's Seraf Naro Siregar, who won the bronze medal, scored 9.720 points. The gap between Siregar and Lee Yong-hyun was just 0.017 points. The result was especially disappointing because Lee was seeking an Asian Games medal for the first time in 12 years.
Lee Yong-hyun won a silver medal at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. At the 2022 Asian Games, held in 2023 in Hangzhou, he finished eighth after making a landing error during the daoshu and gunshu events.
He returned to the Asian Games three years later hoping to reach the podium, but this time a 0.017-point difference separated the medalists. Wushu is divided into taolu, in which the quality of routines is judged by scores, and sanda, a combat event. Taolu includes Changquan, Nanquan, and Taijiquan, as well as weapon events such as daoshu, cudgel, sword, and spear.
Lee Yong-hyun's younger brother, Lee Yong-mun, is also an Asian Games medalist. Lee Yong-mun won a bronze medal at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games and a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games. He was unable to compete in the national team selection trials for this event because he was completing his military service.
