CNN, MS NOW and Politico Reporters Barred from White House

One day after remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, reporters from three outlets—CNN, MS NOW and Politico—were denied access to the White House on the 19th (local time).
Akayla Gardner, an MS NOW White House correspondent, said, "Our reporters were able to work and remain on the ground floor of the White House yesterday," but were denied access on the morning of the 19th.
MS NOW said in a statement, "The White House is owned by the American people, and the decisions made inside it are funded by our tax dollars. We will take every measure necessary to defend our First Amendment rights."
CNN also said that its reporters had been denied access to the White House.
CNN emphasized in a statement, "CNN's mission to report on the U.S. government will continue despite any attempt to restrict our physical access to the White House and other government buildings or to interfere with our journalism." It added, "We have the right under the U.S. Constitution to report without obstruction or government interference. This ban is an unlawful attack on that right."
Jonathan Greenberger, Politico's editor-in-chief, said in an email to the newsroom, "A few minutes ago, our colleague Cheyenne Haslett tried to enter the White House and do her job as a Politico reporter, but the 'Secret Service' denied her entry to the facility."
Trump barred the three outlets from the White House the previous day, saying on his social media platform Truth Social that they "should not be allowed to continually report fiction and lies about the President of the United States, the Trump administration, or the United States," adding, "Other fake news media will follow."
According to CNBC, Trump later said in the White House Oval Office that the ban was a response to the three media outlets' "cumulative articles," adding, "I'm sick of it now."
The Trump White House also temporarily tried to block CNN reporters' access in 2018, during his first term. It is currently facing a lawsuit over its attempt to prevent AP reporters from accessing certain areas.
In a statement on the 19th, AP said, "No news organization or individual should face government retaliation for what they say," and expressed support for the media outlets barred from the White House.
