[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said it respected Kim Seung-won's decision to voluntarily resign as nominee for Minister of Justice on the 19th.
Kang Yoo-jung, chief spokesperson for Cheong Wa Dae, said in a media notice that "Cheong Wa Dae respects Kim Seung-won's decision to withdraw as nominee for Minister of Justice" and added, "We understand that he made this decision to lessen the burden on state affairs."
She explained, "The necessary follow-up procedures will proceed in accordance with the established rules."
Earlier that day, Kim Seung-won held a press conference at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and voluntarily resigned, saying, "I deeply accept that I failed to meet the public's expectations and will deeply reflect on my shortcomings."
Kim Seung-won's voluntary resignation came 20 days after Lee Jae Myung nominated him as candidate for Minister of Justice.
