Domestic Travel Also Increased as Chuseok Holiday Was Extended... Resort Trips Rose 2.7-Fold

[Financial News] Mobility for domestic travel increased significantly as the Chuseok holiday was extended from five days to a week. In particular, the increase in resort destination settings expanded 2.7-fold, while increases in trips to traditional markets and graves also grew by about twice as much.
Tmap Mobility announced on the 19th that it reached these conclusions after analyzing destination-setting data from the 2024 and 2025 Chuseok holidays. The company compared the number of destination settings during each holiday with the same number of days immediately before the holiday and analyzed the 1,000 most frequently selected destinations nationwide.
Travel and Leisure Mobility Increases Doubled as the Holiday Lengthened
The number of travel and leisure destination settings increased by 145.3% in 2024 and 287.5% in 2025 compared with the same period immediately before each holiday. As the holiday lengthened from five days to seven, the increase nearly doubled.The gap was even wider for accommodations and long-distance travel. Destination settings for condos and resorts increased by 303.1% in 2024, then surged 812.4% in 2025. Comparing the increases in the two years, the figure was about 2.7 times larger. The increases for beaches and theme parks also grew 2.6-fold and 2.5-fold, respectively.
Trips to tourist attractions also became more active. The number of destination settings for tourist attractions rose by 272.9% in 2024 and 474.9% in 2025. Destination settings for Jeonju Hanok Village increased 2.7-fold and sixfold, respectively, while those for Korean Folk Village rose 2.4-fold and 3.9-fold. The increase for Daecheon Beach also expanded from twofold to threefold.
More people also visited tourism and cultural facilities in Seoul. Related destination settings increased by 51.3% in 2024 and 90.7% in 2025. During the 2025 holiday in particular, destination settings for the National Museum of Korea rose by 171.1%, Seoul Forest by 73.9%, and Ttukseom Hangang Park by 69.8%. Bulguksa posted a 406.9% increase that year, jumping from 590th to 38th in the nationwide destination rankings.
Traditional Markets and Visits to Graves Also Increased... Department Stores Slowed
The effect of the longer holiday was also evident in shopping. The number of shopping destination settings increased by 43.4% in 2024 and 56.3% in 2025 compared with the periods immediately before the holidays. Outlet destination settings rose by 88.6% and 132.0%, respectively, while those for shopping malls increased by 50.8% and 59.2%. In contrast, department store destination settings fell by 12.8% in 2024 and increased just 3.2% in 2025.Trips to traditional markets increased even more sharply. The number of traditional-market destination settings rose by 298.6% in 2024 and 541.9% in 2025, expanding by about 1.8 times as the holiday grew longer. Destination settings for Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market increased by 105.3% and 217.3%, respectively.
Trips to graves followed a similar pattern. Cemetery destination settings increased by 311.2% in 2024 and 611.5% in 2025, making the increase during the seven-day holiday about twice as large as during the five-day holiday. In 2025, destination settings for Cheonga Memorial Park rose by 339.8%, lifting its nationwide ranking from 995th to 76th. Busan Memorial Park and Icheon National Cemetery also saw increases of 244.8% and 167.2%, respectively.
A Tmap Mobility official said, "We plan to continue analyzing mobility patterns that vary by holiday and season based on driving data and consistently provide users with information on destinations and travel that they need."
