[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the outcome of next week's summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Speaking with reporters at the White House on the 18th local time, President Trump mentioned Xi's visit to the United States, saying, "Xi is coming here next week" and "We will have a very good meeting."
He also emphasized the state of relations between the two countries, saying, "We get along very well. It's a good thing that we get along very well." President Trump added that several agreements would be reached at the summit.
President Trump and Xi Jinping will hold a summit in Washington, D.C., on the 24th. The two leaders are expected to discuss key issues, including trade and tariffs, Taiwan, the Iran war, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Before the summit, President Trump plans to personally welcome Xi as a gesture of special protocol. He is scheduled to travel to Joint Base Andrews near Washington, D.C., on the 23rd to receive Xi in person. It is considered unusual diplomatic protocol for a U.S. president to personally greet a foreign leader at a military airfield.
Regarding the Iran war, Trump reiterated his position that the conflict would end soon. He also predicted that international oil prices would fall sharply once the war ended, but did not specify when the conflict would conclude.
