Rice-Cake Pounding, Master Performances... Chuseok Cultural Events at 13 National Museums

[Financial News] National museums across the country will host family-friendly cultural events for Chuseok, including rice-cake pounding, traditional games and master-performer shows.
According to the National Museum of Korea on the 19th, 13 national museums, including the National Museum of Korea, will hold online and in-person events according to each institution’s schedule from Sept. 22 to 30. All of them will be closed on Sept. 25, Chuseok Day.
The National Museum of Korea will present performances from “The Art Spot Series” at the Open Yard on Sept. 24, 26 and 27. Two performances will be held each day, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Chuncheon National Museum will offer traditional games, rice-cake pounding and injeolmi tasting on Sept. 26. Gongju National Museum will also host the “Gugwanmyeonggwan Master Artists Exhibition,” featuring nine master performers, and a workshop to make janggu drums with LEGO that day.
Cheongju National Museum will offer nongak, the traditional play “The Farting Daughter-in-Law” and children’s films from Sept. 26 to 27. Daegu National Museum will run workshops to make minhwa-inspired paper tiles and mother-of-pearl inlaid soban tables, and stage “My Dream” on Sept. 26 and “Rainbow Show” on Sept. 27.
Gwangju National Museum will offer a planter-making activity linked to the special exhibition “Pottery: Earthenware That Holds Us” from Sept. 26 to 27. Jinju National Museum has prepared hands-on programs themed around the Imjin War, including armor, archery and artillery.
At Gyeongju National Museum, visitors can view the special exhibition “Hwangnyongsa: Enshrining the Buddha’s Relics” and take part in a digital activity at Wolji Hall that allows families to explore cultural heritage together.
Jeonju National Museum has prepared samulnori and hands-on experiences with old household tools, while Naju National Museum will offer games such as gonu and team jegi activities. Visitors can enjoy tuho and jegichagi at Jeju National Museum and Gimhae National Museum.
Iksan National Museum will host “Moon, Moon, Grant My Wish,” where visitors write down their Chuseok wishes, along with folk games and a photo check-in event.
The published schedules show that all 13 museums will offer on-site programs on Sept. 26. Because the one-day events at Chuncheon and Gongju overlap with the two-day schedules at Cheongju and Gwangju, the largest number of museums will offer events that day during the holiday.
Some programs will be operated on a first-come, first-served basis on site or may be changed in the event of rain. Detailed schedules and participation information are available on each museum’s website.
