University of Seoul (UOS), Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) to Operate Dual Ph.D. Program in Engineering

[Financial News]  Doctoral students in engineering at the University of Seoul will be able to complete research and coursework at Missouri S&T and earn doctoral degrees from both universities.
UOS announced on the 18th that it signed an agreement on dual doctoral degrees in engineering with Missouri S&T on the 17th.
Under the agreement, doctoral students who meet certain requirements will conduct research under the joint supervision of faculty members from both universities. Students who fulfill the curricula and degree requirements of both institutions will receive a Ph.D. from each university.
UOS students will first complete coursework and conduct preliminary research in the university's doctoral program. After meeting requirements such as doctoral candidacy and qualifying examinations, they may be conditionally admitted to Missouri S&T's doctoral program. They will then complete the required credits locally and proceed through steps including comprehensive examinations and dissertation writing.
The students will be able to work with researchers from both universities while using the institutions' research facilities and expertise. Starting with exchanges of doctoral students, UOS and Missouri S&T plan to expand joint research and researcher exchanges.
The universities plan to connect UOS's strengths in urban science, smart mobility and urban infrastructure with Missouri S&T's research capabilities in mining, materials, manufacturing, energy, the environment and computing. Key areas of cooperation will include interdisciplinary research on data-driven solutions to urban problems and sustainable urban development.
Missouri S&T is a U.S. public research university specializing in engineering, science and technology. It conducts research in applied science, with a focus on engineering education and industry-linked research.
UOS President Won Yongkul said, "Building on the dual doctoral degree program, we will expand joint research and researcher exchanges and pursue sustained cooperation in fields where we can combine the strengths of both universities."
