[Financial News] A pregnant woman is reportedly in conflict with her husband after refusing her in-laws’ demand that she give her sister-in-law a reservation at a postpartum care center worth 6 million won.

Ms. A said she mobilized her family on the day reservations opened to book a popular postpartum care center with a waiting period of several months. The hard-won reservation cost about 6 million won for two weeks. As this was her first childbirth, she wanted to receive proper postpartum care and paid the deposit with money she had saved from her personal allowance.
The conflict began when Ms. A learned that her sister-in-law’s due date was about a week earlier than hers. Her sister-in-law had conceived through IVF after seven years of marriage and was considered an older, high-risk mother, but she had not booked a postpartum care center in advance. The mother-in-law therefore demanded that Ms. A give her reservation to her sister-in-law.
In return, the mother-in-law offered a pure-gold bar worth 15 million won and said she would also cover the approximately 4 million won cost of a high-end live-in postpartum helper. Her husband also tried to persuade her, saying, "It would be far more worthwhile to receive an asset worth 15 million won and have a live-in helper at home than to spend two weeks at a postpartum care center."
Ms. A declined the offer. She believed it would be difficult to get enough rest at home because of her mother-in-law’s frequent visits, household chores and the baby’s crying.
Her husband reportedly reacted angrily when Ms. A refused to change her mind. He lashed out, saying, "You’re really selfish. My sister gets injections every day and endures agonizing anxiety because she’s afraid of losing the baby, while you’re rejecting this incredible offer just for your own physical comfort? It’s not as if you’re obsessed with money. Can’t you show this much flexibility for family?" The mother-in-law also expressed disappointment, reportedly saying, "If you gave it up, I was going to regard you as my benefactor for life and treat you well."
Ms. A shared her concerns, saying, "My postpartum recovery comes before money, and I want my baby’s first days to begin in a good place." She added, "Am I really being selfish?"
