[Financial News] The University of Seoul (UOS) said on the 18th that “A Music Class That Influences My Life,” an online course taught by Jeon Gi-hong, a professor in the Department of Music, was selected as a Blue Ribbon course in the National Institute for Lifelong Education’s 2025 annual evaluation of K-MOOC courses.
This is the first time a K-MOOC course operated by UOS has been selected as a Blue Ribbon course.
Blue Ribbon courses are selected from those offered on the K-MOOC platform based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative indicators, including enrollment, completion rates, and learner satisfaction.
Of the 1,557 courses evaluated in 2025, 30 were selected as Blue Ribbon courses, accounting for 1.93% of the total. In particular, only 15 courses, or 1.25%, were selected from among the 1,196 courses with concluded agreements or voluntary participation. Jeon’s course was the only one in the arts and physical education category to make the list.
“A Music Class That Influences My Life” examines the impact of music on human life and is designed to help learners appreciate music in a balanced way. Focusing on classical music, it covers musical forms, period-specific characteristics, and the features of musical instruments. It also introduces jazz, world music, and 1,500 years of Western music history.
The course was also selected and offered as a K-MOOC professional development course for teachers in specialized fields. Anyone can currently take it for free through the K-MOOC platform.
Jeon Gi-hong said, "I hope many people will enjoy music in their own lives and discover its meaning through the course." He added, "I will continue working to share the value of music with more learners."
