Opposition People Power Party: "We No Longer Have Any Expectations of President Lee... The Day of the People's Judgment Is Drawing Closer"

[Financial News] The People Power Party immediately unleashed criticism after President Lee Jae Myung's press conference ended on the 18th. In particular, it criticized the remarks made at the press conference regarding reelection through a constitutional amendment, the withdrawal of indictments, and whether to appoint Kim Seung-won as nominee for minister of justice.
Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, said on social media that it was "a press conference that confirmed there is no longer anything to expect from President Lee" and that "the day of the people's judgment has drawn even closer."
Jang said, "President Lee said he had absolutely no intention of seeking another term," and asked, "Is it really so difficult to make a clear declaration that he will not seek another term?" He continued, "He said he would pursue a so-called special counsel investigation into allegedly fabricated indictments, except for withdrawing the indictments," adding that Lee "still claimed to be a victim of political investigations."
He also said, "He said a final decision had not been made on nominee Kim. Ultimately, this means he still has not given up his lingering desire to withdraw the indictments," and criticized all of President Lee's remarks on real estate policy and the introduction of single-stock leveraged ETFs.
Chung Jeom-sik, the floor leader, held a press briefing at the National Assembly regarding President Lee's press conference and said, "I am becoming even more convinced that there will be no constitutional amendment under this administration. President Lee did not promise that he would never seek another term; he merely said he had no intention of seeking one. By outsourcing discussions on a constitutional amendment to the Democratic Party of Korea, he was hinting that he could change his mind when the time comes."
Regarding President Lee's request to remove the provision on withdrawing indictments from the special counsel bill on allegedly fabricated indictments, Chung said, "Deleting the provision on withdrawing indictments from the special counsel bill has no meaning whatsoever," arguing, "Launching a special counsel investigation after already concluding that the indictments were fabricated is itself an effort to withdraw them."
He added, "President Lee never ultimately said, 'I will stand trial,'" calling it "a hidden scheme to achieve the same effect as withdrawing the indictments through the detour of a special counsel investigation."
Regarding President Lee's position that he would carefully consider appointing Kim, Chung said, "This too is deceiving the public," predicting, "He has merely delayed it for a short time and will ultimately force through the appointment."
Chung also summed up President Lee's press conference as "an outright declaration rejecting demands for a change in the administration's policy direction, while also catering to the left and appeasing left-wing supporters in an attempt to prevent his support base from falling apart."
Regarding President Lee's remark on single-stock leveraged ETFs that 'someone must have made the decision,' Chung called it "an irresponsible attempt to evade responsibility" and reaffirmed his position: "We cannot contain our outrage that the public suffered losses of 54 trillion won. We will pursue a special counsel bill on this issue."
