[Financial News]  BNK Financial Group announced on the 18th that it had signed an "Agreement to Create Sea Forests for Expanding Carbon Sinks and Conserving Marine Ecosystems" at BPEX.
The agreement was designed to build broader social consensus on the importance of conserving marine ecosystems by promoting fisheries resources and marine biodiversity, creating sea forests as an eco-friendly carbon sink, and restoring marine ecosystems.
Ten organizations, including BNK Financial Group, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), Tongyeong-si, the Busan Port Authority (BPA), the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency (FIRA), Busan Port Terminal, Hanjin Busan Newport, HMM PSA New Port, Busan Container Terminal Company, and Dongwon Global Terminal Busan, are participating in the agreement and have agreed to work together to restore marine ecosystems and expand carbon sinks.
The participating organizations plan to create a sea forest covering 1.55 square kilometers near the waters off Dodong, Yokji-myeon, Tongyeong-si, South Gyeongsang Province, by 2029. To this end, they will undertake various activities to support the stable habitat and growth of seaweed, including collecting and controlling herbivores such as sea urchins, removing weeds from coastal rocks, and installing submerged low longlines and artificial bags.
A BNK Financial Group official said, "We hope this agreement will make a tangible contribution to restoring damaged marine ecosystems and expanding carbon sinks. Going forward, we will continue to expand our ESG activities to preserve the region's natural environment and build a sustainable future through cooperation with various organizations."
