Shinhan Financial Group said on the 18th that it won the Grand Prize, the highest honor—the Financial Services Commission Chairman's Award—at the 2026 Korea IR Awards ceremony held by the Korea Investor Relations Association at KRX in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
Now in its 26th year, the Korea IR Awards has selected and honored listed companies with outstanding investor relations activities and IR officers (IROs) every year.
The Korea Investor Relations Association cited Shinhan Financial Group's efforts to strengthen investor communication by announcing Shinhan Value-Up 2.0 in April, a corporate value enhancement plan featuring a predictable shareholder-return policy linked to return on equity (ROE) and growth, as the reason for its selection.
In Shinhan Value-Up 2.0, Shinhan Financial Group set medium-term targets of ROE of at least 10%, a shareholder return ratio of at least 50%, and a common equity tier 1 (CET1) ratio of at least 13%. It also unveiled a dividend roadmap prioritizing tax-exempt and separately taxed dividends, along with a shareholder-return policy with no upper limit on the payout ratio.
The key feature of Shinhan Value-Up 2.0 is the introduction of a shareholder-return ratio formula that links ROE with growth, based on managing the CET1 ratio at an appropriate level. The plan applies from this year through 2028.
In fact, after renewing every year its corporate value enhancement plan, first announced in July 2024, Shinhan Financial Group increased its shareholder return ratio ahead of schedule from 36.0% in 2023 to 50.2% last year.
In the third quarter of this year, it resolved to additionally acquire KRW 700 billion worth of treasury shares and pay a cash dividend of KRW 740 per share, continuing the trend. Its cumulative annual treasury-share purchases rose to KRW 1.4 trillion.
The company was also highly praised for its proactive investor communication, including approximately 570 IR meetings annually and around 70 meetings each year in which the board and management participate directly.
A Shinhan Financial Group official said, "This award was possible because it was backed by the trust of our shareholders and investors," adding, "We will continue working to sustainably enhance corporate value through transparent, board-led communication and consistent shareholder-return policies."
