"Dress like Hye-in," "People with lower academic credentials work part-time jobs"... Yong Hye-in's husband's past remarks resurface

[Financial News]   Park Ki-hong, the spouse of Basic Income Party lawmaker Yong Hye-in, was found to have compared colleagues' appearances with that of Yong and made disparaging remarks about women activists in the past.
According to a report by MBN on the 17th, Park acknowledged gender discrimination and resigned while serving as leader of Youth Left in 2017.
According to the victim's written demand for an apology, Park made remarks in 2014 comparing female activists with Yong, whom he was dating at the time. Yong, then a college student, was gaining attention after the "Stay Still" protest over the MV Sewol disaster.
 Park compared and judged their appearances, saying, "Dress like Yong Hye-in," "Your makeup is too heavy," "The media do not like makeup that does not make you look like a student," and "Our Hye-in even has a stylist. Her college-student image did not come out of nowhere."
The disparaging remarks about women activists were not isolated.
Park said, "Women activists are mentally weak" and "I have seen many women activists fall apart while dating."
He also did not hesitate to make disparaging remarks about educational backgrounds, saying, "People with less prestigious academic backgrounds work a lot of part-time jobs" and "Our students at Korea University do not work part-time jobs."
The victims claimed that Park showed no genuine remorse even after resigning as leader.
Person A, who was previously active in Youth Left, told the outlet, "He never once asked whether the victims were okay," adding, "It felt like he had no remorse. I think continuing to be active should also be taken into account in evaluating him."
Park and the Basic Income Party did not respond to inquiries about the circumstances surrounding the remarks.
As he has taken a leadership position in a party that has emphasized gender equality, critics say an accountable explanation for the past controversy should come first.
