Korean Air Shares Predictive Maintenance Know-How for Integrated LCC

[Financial News] Korean Air is accelerating preparations for the launch of an integrated low-cost carrier (LCC) by sharing predictive maintenance technology and operational know-how with group affiliates, including Jin Air, Air Busan and Air Seoul.
Korean Air said it held the “Integrated LCC Predictive Maintenance Workshop” on the 18th at its headquarters in Gangseo District, Seoul. About 30 maintenance personnel attended, including representatives from the three airlines set to form the integrated LCC—Jin Air, Air Busan and Air Seoul—as well as Asiana Airlines and other group affiliates.
Predictive maintenance involves analyzing data accumulated during aircraft operations to anticipate the likelihood of defects in parts or systems and carrying out the necessary maintenance before an actual failure occurs. By continuously monitoring an aircraft’s condition, the approach helps predict when maintenance is needed, enhancing aircraft reliability and improving maintenance efficiency.
Korean Air has continued to advance its predictive maintenance technology based on data accumulated during flight operations and maintenance. In particular, the airline is strengthening its data-driven smart maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities by applying its in-house-developed predictive maintenance model to actual maintenance operations and identifying early signs of aircraft defects in advance.
The workshop was organized to share Korean Air’s predictive maintenance technology and operational know-how with its group affiliates and support the stable launch of the integrated LCC. It builds on experience gained through the “2026 Global Airline Predictive Maintenance Workshop” held in April.
The event featured presentations on Korean Air’s progress in predictive maintenance, key technologies and data-driven maintenance cases. Participants reviewed predictive maintenance technology trends in the domestic and global aviation industries, Korean Air’s operations, ways to use aircraft operations data and examples of applying its in-house-developed predictive maintenance model.
The workshop concluded with an open discussion on current issues related to predictive maintenance and ways to apply the technology in the field. Participants shared their respective experiences and explored avenues for cooperation in predictive maintenance after the integrated LCC is launched.
A Korean Air official said, "Held ahead of the launch of the integrated LCC, this workshop is an opportunity for Korean Air to share the predictive maintenance technology and know-how it has accumulated with its group affiliates. We will continue to improve maintenance quality and aircraft operational stability through technological exchanges and cooperation among group affiliates."
