[New Delhi, India—Correspondent Pragya Awasati] Samsung Electronics is accelerating efforts to build a smart home ecosystem in India by expanding its lineup of artificial intelligence (AI) appliances. The company plans to extend AI features beyond premium products to mid- and low-priced models while connecting appliances with smartphones, wearables and other devices to increase the practical use of AI in everyday life.
According to local media reports on the 18th, Ghufran Alam, an executive in Samsung Electronics India's digital appliances division, said in a recent interview with a local outlet, "We do not view AI experiences as something to be applied only to high-priced products." He indicated that the company intends to lower the barriers to adopting AI appliances.
When Samsung Electronics launched its AI appliance business in 2024, it initially focused on premium drum washing machines. It has since expanded the technology to top-loading washing machines. AI features were also initially offered mainly in large refrigerators, such as side-by-side and four-door models, but are now available in frost-free refrigerators with capacities of approximately 236 liters.
Samsung Electronics has added refrigerators and air conditioners to its 2026 Bespoke AI appliance lineup for the Indian market. Key products include a Family Hub refrigerator equipped with an AI Vision feature based on Google Gemini, the Bespoke AI WindFree Pro air conditioner and the Infinite 1-Way cassette air conditioner.
Another pillar of Samsung Electronics' AI appliance strategy is connecting devices. The company aims to link smartphones, smartwatches, TVs, tablets and laptops with home appliances, allowing them to function as a single ecosystem rather than as individual products.
Samsung Electronics is pursuing interoperability not only among its own products but also with some third-party devices. It is also considering connecting ceiling fans, which are commonly used alongside air conditioners in Indian homes, to the air conditioners to manage temperature and power consumption more efficiently.
Samsung Electronics plans to continue expanding the range of products and price points that incorporate AI features. The company is combining on-device AI with cloud-based AI to broaden the AI capabilities of its home appliances.
