President Lee on U.S. Investment: "There Are Some Parts That Are Difficult to Agree to, So We Are Discussing Them Again"

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 18th that "we are engaged in intense debate and consultations to structure the project in a way that benefits the national interests of both South Korea and the United States" in connection with the negotiations on investment in the United States.
At a press conference held that day at the Yeongbingwan State Guest House, President Lee explained that "the issue of investment in the United States is a very complex and difficult task" in response to the postponement of a report to the National Assembly on the U.S. investment project.
President Lee said, "They say that an agreement has almost been reached, but when I looked at the details, there are some parts that are difficult to agree to," adding, "We are discussing them again."
Looking back at the tariff negotiations, President Lee said, "It was a very difficult and arduous process, but fortunately, we were able to include the phrase 'commercial rationality' as we wanted," adding, "It was extremely difficult, and it is an expression that other countries do not have."
He continued, "Now that we have begun specific investment consultations, that has started to become a problem again," emphasizing, "We will only pursue projects that have commercial rationality. The national interest is truly important." He added, "We are engaged in intense debate and consultations to structure the project in a way that does not undermine the national interest and benefits both South Korea and the United States."
