Kim Min-seok: "I Had the Same Thoughts and Feelings as Lee Throughout His Press Conference"

[Financial News] Kim Min-seok, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 18th that he had "the same thoughts and the same feelings as the president throughout" President Lee Jae Myung's national press conference, during which Lee reaffirmed people's livelihoods, reform, and unity as the core principles of his administration.
Speaking to reporters at the National Assembly shortly after Lee's press conference, Kim shared his thoughts and said, "The party will also listen more humbly and attend to people's livelihoods."
Earlier, President Lee attributed his recent decline in approval ratings to "my shortcomings," acknowledging that he had fallen short in communication and consideration. He also pledged to complete irreversible prosecutorial reform, stabilize the real estate market, and complete Sejong City as the administrative capital.
Regarding constitutional revision, Lee reaffirmed the need to introduce a system allowing presidents to serve consecutive terms, but ruled out the possibility of seeking another term himself, saying, "I have absolutely no intention of serving another term." He also stated that constitutional revision should be led by the National Assembly and the people, adding that he would actively cooperate if consultations between the ruling and opposition parties take place.
The Democratic Party of Korea has also said it will align itself with Lee's focus on people's livelihoods, reform, and unity. Park Seong-jun, the party's senior spokesperson, said, "Above all, we were able to once again confirm President Lee's commitment to people's livelihoods, reform, and national unity." He added, "As one of the pillars of state administration, the Democratic Party will do its utmost to resolve the many pending issues affecting people's livelihoods and complete stable reform through national unity."
However, senior spokesperson Park Seong-jun avoided giving specific answers about President Lee's decision to defer a conclusion on the appointment of Kim Seung-won as the Ministry of Justice minister nominee and his request that the National Assembly delete a special-counsel provision concerning the withdrawal of prosecution. On the nominee's appointment, Park limited his comments, saying, "I don't think it would be appropriate for me to add my own explanation or interpretation to the president's remarks here." Regarding the special-counsel provision, he said, "Those were the president's words," and added, "After hearing the president's remarks, won't a position from the party leadership or parliamentary leadership be issued soon?"
Meanwhile, Kim will launch the Democratic Party's Constitutional Amendment Promotion Task Force on the 20th, formally setting the constitutional revision debate in motion. Since President Lee also expressed his willingness that day to cooperate with discussions on constitutional revision led by the National Assembly and the people, the party's deliberations are expected to accelerate. Kim will hold his first press briefing since taking office on the same day and outline his plans for the political situation ahead, including constitutional revision, as well as his direction for running the party.
