[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 18th, "I think we need to consider why state institutions are granted independence."
President Lee made the remarks at a Cheong Wa Dae press conference that day when asked about Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae's recent repeated statements concerning "judicial independence."
Cheong Wa Dae had requested a new nomination after the Supreme Court of Korea nominated Judge Son Bong-gi of the Daegu District Court, a senior judge, to replace former Supreme Court Justice Rho Tae-ak.
Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae said the previous day, "Cooperation among the judiciary, legislature and executive must take place while ensuring the independence of the judiciary."
