[Financial News] Severance Hospital ranked No. 1 in South Korea in three fields: neurosurgery, orthopedics, and obstetrics and gynecology. It ranked second overall based on the number of clinical fields in which it placed first in South Korea in the “2027 World’s Best Specialized Hospitals” evaluation announced by Newsweek, a U.S. current affairs magazine, in partnership with global research firm Statista. Orthopedics and endocrinology also made the global top 10.
The evaluation covered medical institutions in more than 30 countries worldwide. Rankings were calculated across 13 specialized clinical fields by combining recommendations from medical professionals, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), and various accreditations.
Orthopedics rose back to No. 1 in South Korea this year after ranking second last year. Its global ranking also climbed three spots, from ninth to sixth, keeping it in the global top 10. Neurosurgery and obstetrics and gynecology each retained their No. 1 positions in South Korea. The two fields have consistently received top evaluations nationally, once again confirming Severance Hospital’s strong clinical capabilities.
In the global rankings, orthopedics placed sixth and endocrinology 10th, putting both fields in the global top 10. Endocrinology was particularly notable, rising two spots from 12th last year to 10th this year and entering the top 10.
Several other clinical fields also ranked highly in South Korea and abroad. Nephrology, which was included in the evaluation for the first time this year, entered the upper tier by ranking second in South Korea. The global rankings for several fields, including cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, pediatrics, urology, and oncology, also improved from last year, indicating an overall enhancement in competitiveness.
Kang Young Lee, president of Severance Hospital, said, "These results are the fruit of the efforts built through the united dedication of all employees, including the medical staff on the front lines, together with our patient-centered philosophy. The No. 1 rankings in South Korea in major clinical fields and the entry of orthopedics and endocrinology into the global top 10 demonstrate how the dedication of our members has elevated Severance Hospital’s competitiveness beyond South Korea to a global level." He added, "All of us will continue to work together and do our utmost to provide patients with better medical services."
